NC9U VHF Repeater Biography    Otter Creek Repeater Club Logo

The original 145.350 repeater equipment was owned and coordinated by Wayne Gilbert (KA9R). It was located on the WTWO inter-city microwave tower, in Reelsville, Indiana. In February of 1990, Marvin Dabelow (NC9U) bought repeater equipment from Wayne. Repeater coordination was then applied for under the call sign NC9U for the new location of Farmersburg Indiana (Latitude 39-14’-36" Longitude 87-23’-07"). Coordination was granted on May 1st of 1990. At this time, the repeater equipment and antennas were moved to the Farmersburg location.

The Farmersburg location is the WTHI-TV 10 main transmitter site, located about 16 miles south of Terre Haute, Indiana on highway US 41. The repeater’s electronics cabinet was housed inside the transmitter building. The antenna was mounted at 800 feet on south leg of tower. A remote receiver for downtown Terre Haute came on line in the fall of 2003. It is located at WTHI TV 10 main studio at 918 Ohio Street in Terre Haute, Indiana. This remote increased handheld and over all receive coverage for most if not all of Vigo County. Within a few weeks the repeater was reconfigured to be a split site system. Downtown Terre Haute being main receive site and Farmersburg being the transmit site. The receiver in Farmersburg was taken off line.

In the spring of 2004 it was made known to the repeater group that HD-TV would be installed on the Farmersburg tower in the very near future. With this in mind a decision was made to give up the tower site. The repeater was moved to a North Terre Haute site on a temporary basis. It is duplexing from 100 feet at this location. Power output is 100 watts. By the fall of 2004 the repeater will be in a split site configuration again. The main receiver will be at WTHI TV 10 main studio at 918 Ohio Street, and the transmitter will be at North Terre Haute. The receive antenna will be at 475 feet and the transmit antenna will be at 200 feet. The power level of the repeater will be adjusted to compensate for the difference in antenna heights of the two sites.

It is our intension to try and have the same coverage area as we have become accustom to in the past. By the end of 2005 most of the new configuration on the repeater will be completed.
